Paradise Inn, Serangoon NEX

>> Friday, December 7, 2012

Throughout the month of November, I've had 3 weddings to attend, out of which I helped out in 2 of the 3 weddings as bridesmaid/maid of honour. It's been a very busy & hectic month, & moving into December, I thought things would settle down at least a little bit.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be the way as my weekends are occupied with either committee retreats, youth leadership camps, a wedding & even Christmas preparations! Fuh. With such a packed schedule, my poor blog has been abandoned *sobs* I'll try to keep it updated whenever I have time, yeah?

Overall comment: Decent food at slightly higher prices. The customer service at this outlet is slightly too good when it comes to pouring soup! Hahaha...
Halal: No

I was in Singapore for almost a whole week 2 weeks ago for my best friend's wedding. I'm really blessed to have the opportunity to try out different types of food & restaurants each time I'm there. GN's parents treated me to my first meal upon my arrival in Singapore at Paradise Inn at Serangoon NEX. The Paradise group is quite a large group of restaurants, that even Malaysia has several outlets of their restaurants.

The outlet at Serangoon NEX is quite a cosy one. We ended up ordering a set meal for 2-3 persons + a medium serving of the pig's trotter mee hoon, aunty YC's favourite. According to her, it's a must-try!

Yummy braised peanuts
Soft & flavourful. It's quite addictive as well :)

Cutlery
Very Chinese :)

Mini "stove" for the soup
This helps to keep the soup warm.

Beancurd with minced pork on sizzling pan
The beancurd is quite nice, I must say. The gravy was slightly salty, but goes well with rice. It has eggs + salted fish as well!

One of the staff serving us our soup
Each time the staff here notices our soup bowl is empty, they will come by to ask if we would like more soup & help us dish out a hot bowl of soup. This happened at least 3 times until aunty YC could not take it any more (it's quite annoying to have someone asking you the same question every 10 minutes) & requested for them to stop serving us more soup as we can help ourselves! Hahahaha...we were so full of drinking the soup that we couldn't finish the other dishes!

Double-boiled wintermelon with chicken

Supreme Seafood Fried Rice
Fried Rice with Prawns & Fish Roe
The fried rice is probably one of the nicest dish in the set :) It's fragrant, the texture of the rice is just-nice (not too hard nor soft), & the prawns were also fresh. Biting into the fish roe & having it pop in the mouth is also quite "fun"...heehee...

 Stir-Fried Baby Kai Lan
There's nothing much to shout about except that the veggie could be fresher. The ones served to us were slightly yellowish & old.

Pig's Trotter Vermicelli (S$18.90/medium serving)
If you enjoy braised pig's trotter - the really fat ones, you'll love this dish! The vermicelli/mee hoon is very nice. It's slightly "thicker" & in Chinese, we call the texture, "kiew-kiew/qq"...means it's "springy". Overall the flavour is quite intense & the dish wasn't too oily although it has pig's trotter in it.

Dessert: Red Bean Soup
The meal was completed with this thick & sweet red bean soup, which I was too full to finish. I was stuffed!

The bill

I won't mind having a meal at Paradise Inn again. To the very least, with the price paid, you get some decent food & pretty good service :)
