What to eat in Kuantan: Fluffy roti canai at Farouk Maju,

>> Thursday, June 9, 2016

When it comes to dinners, AP & I are fairly simple & have minimal requirements. On one of the days, we just felt like having a classic mamak meal, so we went to what AP labels as one of the best roti canais in town at Farouk Maju on Jalan Dato Lim Hoe Lek.

The roti canai here is fluffy, especially when eating hot/warm, directly after it's served. I don't think that packing it home will have the same texture though...I've yet to try. The only downside is their dhal, which wasn't very fantastic. We actually discovered a relatively delicious roti canai stall at Restoran 777 last night that served really thick, smooth dhal to go with your freshly made roti canai or capati! That's a better option for a roti canai + dhal meal, but if you're in fluffy roti canai & you're not too bothered with the dhal or curry, Farouk Maju serves a better canai (plus they have a greater variety of dishes available).

The ladies before me ordered some nasi lemak as well, so I had to try since they ordered a few plates of nasi lemak...hahaha. I didn't find their rice fragrant enough, but it was acceptable. The deep-fried chicken wasn't exactly fantastic, but it was still crispy. I wish it was more flavorful.

AP ordered the briyani rice with a piece of deep-fried chicken plus a side of mutton curry. Frankly speaking, I still prefer Restoran Bombay's briyani rice any time. This version lacks herbs & spices & I love intense, flavorful dishes :)

If you're still thinking of what to have for dinner tonight (in Kuantan), why not just go for something simple at Farouk Maju? :D
