Overall comment: Fun way to enjoy pancakes!
Halal: Pork-free

When my blogger friend Pancake extended the invitation to me to review Slappy Cakes, little did I know that this place is actually a pancake parlour & not a dessert cafe. It felt as if Pancake invited me to review his minions...hahaha...

Slappy Cakes first started in the year 2009, in Portland, Oregon. Since then, it has expanded to Maui, Japan, Philippines, Singapore & even Malaysia.

The main thing about Slappy Cakes isn't just the fluffy pancakes, but the fun in designing your own pancakes at your own griddle!

The Kuala Lumpur outlet of Slappy Cakes at Publika, Solaris Dutamas is spacious with fun, bright colors to create a fun atmosphere to enjoy the delicious pancakes. I'm reminded of the typical American diner restaurants when I stepped into Slappy Cakes; the hanging-from-ceiling lights, long tables, narrow restaurant (or more like long & deep). Here at Slappy Cakes, you don't just get their signature pancakes, but also the all-day breakfast, entrees, salads & some desserts.

Your own griddle

Slappy Leomonade (RM8.00/glass)
Slappy takes pride in its home-made items like their lemonade. The sour taste of lemons is well-balanced with sugar syrup to give this drink a refreshing 'kick'.

Diners can choose from 4 different batters. I felt that each of the flavor has its unique characteristics. If you're a hard-core traditionalist, the buttermilk batter (RM9.00/bottle) will not disappoint. This simple, fluffy pancake batter will satisfy your craving for some good pancakes.

Chocolate fans wouldn't want to miss out trying the chocolate batter (RM12.00/bottle). It's rich & chocolatey, but I feel that when balanced with a non-chocolate batter, the pancakes taste much better.

Peanut butter lovers can enjoy the peanut butter batter (RM12.00/bottle) as well & those who are more 'health-conscious' can opt for the whole wheat batter (RM12.00/bottle).

You can also top your pancakes with an assortment of condiments (RM3.00 - RM3.50/serving) like their home-made strawberry jam, home-made lemon curd, home-made cinnamon creme fraiche, white chocolate chips, & even fresh strawberries & blueberries (plus loads of other choices).

Home-Made Strawberry Jam (RM3.50/serving)

Home-Made Lemon Curd (RM3.50/serving)

Home-Made Cinnamon Creme Fraiche (RM3.50/serving)

White Chocolate Chips (RM3.00/serving)

Get creative & 'draw' your own pancake!
Mine turned out really weird after it 'bubbled'...hahaha...the best part with the pancakes is that they don't stick to the griddle nor are they 'oily'!

Fluffy pancakes!

Let your creative juices flow...you can even make crepes with the pancake batter!
Drizzle with the lemon curd & top it with strawberries & blueberries *yums*

Actually thin pancakes/crepes tastes really delicious - crispy!

House-Made Granola (RM15.00/serving)
Served over Greek yogurt & topped with fresh fruits & bananas
I actually miss having this! I had quite a fair bit of such granolas in Australia & it was delicious plus healthy. The Greek yogurt takes getting used to, but I just love the crunch from the granola, crisps from the apples, & the freshness of the berries, coupled with the smoothness of bananas, all in each mouthful :)

Slappy Benedict (RM23.00/serving)
Sauteed spinach, mushrooms & turkey bacon with pureed roasted garlic & sundried tomatoes topped with 2 poached eggs & hollandaise sauce on house-made English muffins, served with potatoes.
Not every restaurant serves good eggs benedict & I have to say that Slappy Cakes actually serves pretty good ones.

Ooze out, babeh...

Grilled Salmon Aglio Olio (RM22.00/serving)
Salmon cube, sweet basil, black olives & chili flakes
This was one of my favorites for the night; so well seasoned! I love the aromatic sweet basil & the zing from the chili flakes. The salmon cubes add a delish touch to the simple aglio olio. Yums!

Pancake drawing his final (signature) pancake: Doraemon

It's actually quite alike *wow*

If you're looking for a fun time with family & friends over some simple, delectable pancakes & warm food, give Slappy Cakes a try. So far, the feedback that I've heard on this place were all positive. Enjoy your dining experience at Slappy Cakes!
