Review: Polpetta - Your Meatball Canvas

>> Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Overall comment: Great place for meatball lovers (both meat eaters & vegetarians)!
Halal: Pork-free

Polpetta is almost one month old now! *yay*

Here's introducing Polpetta, your meatball canvas :D Build your own main dish with meatballs as the main ingredient - be creative! Build your own combination as the 'canvas' is free for you to 'design' ;)

Located at 10 Boulevard along the Sprint highway before the ramp to Bandar Utama, Polpetta is surely a potential to be THE place for good meatballs. This simple cafe is a family business by the Nah family, managed by their young & capable son, Egbert Nah. The family has a passion in the F & B industry & Polpetta is certainly one of the family's pride & joy.

The design of the cafe is simple & homey, aiming to just satisfy the cravings of all meat & even mushroom lovers! Yes, you read it right! They have mushroom balls for vegetarians (100% meatless) :D *yay again*

Ordering is fairly simple although I do feel that it's somewhat complex due to the choices available! :P Just 4 steps, but there's a possibility of 240 combinations!! *faints* I hope my math is correct (3*4*4*5).

1. Choose your meatballs: Beef (RM15.00/serving), chicken (RM13.00/serving) or mushroom (RM16.00/serving)
2. Choose your base: Pasta, mashed potatoes, brown rice or salad
3. Choose your sauce: Classic tomato, freshly blended pesto, mushroom or cheesy cream
4. Choose your topping: Parmesan cheese, nuts, crispy crunch, roasted garlic, or roasted onions

That's not all that Polpetta offers. They have add-ons available as well such as fried egg, hash brown & more, PLUS special combinations/sets! You'll certainly be spoilt for choice here :)

The menu

Since a group of us friends came together to try out Polpetta's meatballs, here are some of the dishes that we had:

Creamy Mushroom Soup (RM9.00/serving)
You can taste the bits of mushrooms in their soup, but the taste could be improved as the soup was had that day lacks salt/ seasoning. Texture is acceptable, but somehow it lacks some "umph" for a mushroom soup. Drink it while it's hot. We realized that when it turned cold, it was quite difficult to finish the bowl of soup as the taste has 'changed'.

Beef Meatballs + Pasta + Freshly-Blended Pesto + Parmesan Cheese (RM15.00/serving)
The meatballs were actually quite large. Although each serving comes with just 3 meatballs, it's actually enough to satisfy your craving of meatballs & keep you happy. The meatballs were flavorful & juicy, & it actually went well with the fresh pesto.

The Three Stooges (Beef RM15.00/ Chicken RM14.00/ Mushrooms RM16.00 per serving)
Three balls served separately in brioche buns with lettuce & tomatoes, three different sauces: mushroom gravy/ fresh pesto/ classic tomato/ cheesy cream
If you're a fan of meatballs & love variety, go for this dish! You'll get to try all 3 types of meatballs with 3 different combinations of sauce, served in mini brioche buns! Christmas is coming & this looks like the perfect treat for yourself this season :D

Three Musketeers (Beef RM20.00/ Chicken RM18.00/ Mushrooms RM22.00 per serving)
Three balls served on top of a toasted roll with caramelized onions, crispy eggplant, a splash of sauce & simple selection of greens
Mushroom balls + deep-fried eggplant slices + cheesy cream sauce served on a bun! It's actually quite nice, but the mushroom balls had a bit too much bread crumbs that I couldn't really taste & feel the texture of the mushrooms. We gave the feedback to Egbert already, so I'm very sure that they've improved on their mushroom balls since our 1st visit!

Beef Meatballs + Mashed Potatoes + Classic Tomato Sauce + Parmesan Cheese (RM15.00/serving)
This is really classic. You can't go wrong with such combination ;)

Chicken Meatballs + Pasta + Mushroom Sauce + Parmesan Cheese (RM13.00/serving)
This is your typical, homey, comfort meal. I think they could improve on their mushroom sauce. The meatballs are the star of the dish as always.

Mushroom Balls + Mashed Potatoes + Mushroom Sauce + Crispy Crunch (Beef Bacon (RM16.00/serving)
This is my pick for comfort food craving as a mushroom-lover: mushroom balls + potatoes + crispy beef bacon! *drools*

Mushroom Balls + Mashed Potatoes + Cheesy Cream + Parmesan Cheese (RM16.00/serving)
I call this combination the ultimate cheesy combo! Hats off to Sheepz for ordering such a cheesy combination! He must be craving for cheese like crazy...hahaha...he was "stuffed" by the time he finished the whole plate of mushrooms balls & mashed potatoes.

This festive season, why not try something new in town by popping by Polpetta to fill-up your own meatball canvas? They're constantly improving & introducing new items to their menu, so do give this place a try!
