Review: New Beginnings @ Tony Roma's Malaysia

>> Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Overall comment: Generous portion of lamb burger & fries! The grilled focaccia bruchetta is something you'll not want to miss as well ;)
Halal: Pork-free

It's been a crazily busy start of the year. As I begin a new year 2014 with a busy schedule, Tony Roma's is also breaking through this year 2014 with it's latest promotion of lamb burgers! Yes, you heard it right! Lamb burger at Tony Roma's Malaysia.

Featuring 4 different types of lamb burgers, Tony Roma's just takes you on a journey around the globe, across various seasons of the year. Here's what you can get from now 'til the end of this week i.e. 16th Feb 2014 (ideas for this Valentine's Day, maybe?)

My personal favourite was the Luau Lamb Burger:

Luau Lamb Burger (RM27.90/serving)
You'll find a  grilled lamb burger patty topped with melted mozzarella cheese and fresh pineapples cooked in honey plum sauce. The sauce is sweet, savoury, & tangy, giving the already moist patty an elevated level of flavour. The only thing about the patty that I didn't really fancy was the texture - it wasn't "minced" minced, but it felt like a piece of ham. Very different from freshly hand-packed patties, I would say, but tasty nonetheless. It's a personal preference & I will always appreciate hand-packed ones more as you'll get a more "gamey" taste & texture ;)

Nacho Lamb Burger (RM27.90/serving)
The burger patty is the same for all 4 burgers, but this variant is topped with melted shredded Cheddar cheese, fried breaded chili slices and the best part, crispy tortilla strips! The burger comes with a serving of homemade roasted chipotle sauce as well, which is optional to go with the burger. If you're in for some spiciness, you'll love it :) This is one great "variety of textures" burger - the moist patty & the crispy tortilla strips....yums!

Kaboom Lamb Burger (RM27.90/serving)
I would have expected more from the name of this burger, but it felt very similar to the Luau Lamb Burger. This variant is topped with the sweet and spicy pineapple salsa plus a melted mozzarella cheese. I wish the burger was more charred as it lacks the "burnt"/barbecue/grilled taste.

Summertime Lamb Burger (RM27.90/serving)
This was one lamb burger LOADED with caramelized onions, plus Tony Roma's tantalizing homemade burger sauce. I would say that this is a burger for onion lovers! Hahaha. Light & perfect for the summer...heehee...

Apart from the 4 lamb burgers, Tony Roma's new "appetizer" of Grilled Focaccia Bruschetta, a twist from the usual bruchetta using the french loaf/baguette, is also something not to be missed.

Grilled Focaccia Bruschetta (RM12.90/serving)
Sink your teeth into a thick-cut of Focaccia bread, topped with a medley of healthy ingredients such as roasted cherry tomatoes, leeks, peppers, and feta cheese. The 'bruchetta' is then drizzled with the appetizing balsamic vinaigrette dressing to give the simple "vegetarian appetizer" a 'zing' ;)

We also had the chance to try out their all-time favourite milkshakes. As a chocolate-lover, the chocolate milkshake was my least favourite here :( It was too sweet & cloying. The vanilla was the best for me as I don't fancy strawberry milkshakes as well...hahaha...

Strawberry Milkshake (RM9.90/glass)
Creamy, thick & the taste of strawberry was pretty evident.

Chocolate Milkshake (RM9.90/glass)
Very sweet!! :(

Vanilla Milkshake (RM9.90/glass)
I'm not a #1 fan of vanilla milkshakes, but this was certainly the best among the three that I tried :P

For some moist & creatively matched lamb burgers & milkshakes (and not forgetting the beef/lamb ribs as well), head on to a Tony Roma's outlet nearest to you :)

Hi, is Tony Romas confirmed HALAL? I know its not certified due to the alcoholic beverages but are the menu from a halal source?

@Anonymous: All Tony Roma’s (TR) in Malaysia are serving meat certified halal by our religious department. At kitchen, we have plenty of cooks who are Muslim themselves preparing the food. No alcohol is use in cooking.by Tony Roma's Malaysia, August 13, 2012 at 6:27pm

I don't think they have obtained the halal certification due to the alcoholic bar, but they are pork-free & using halal certified meat in their kitchen. I will change my post to reflect pork-free to avoid confusion.
