Trip to the US: The Cooper-Garrod Vineyard Tour & Wine Tasting (Part 2)

>> Monday, June 10, 2013

I think I've been really behind all my posts since I was flying here & there from 1 country to another. Just came back from holiday in Cambodia - had a GREAT time there with family & friends. The post will be out once I've completed those of my trip to the US :)

**********
One of the final parts of my tour at Cooper-Garrod's Vineyard was the wine-tasting. I'm no wine connoisseur, but I thought since I was there, I might as well try out something different! Wine-tasting (4 -7 types of wine) costs USD5.00 & I am really glad to have tried some of the wines that Cooper-Garrod produces.

I pretty much tried all the wines available for tasting :P
  • 2011 Voignier
  • 2009 Chardonnay
  • 2009 Pinot Noir
  • 2009 Carbanet Franc
  • 2008 Test-Pilot F7U
  • 2007 Carbanet Sauvignon, Lone Oak Vineyard

Some were pretty "light" & for red wines, I actually prefer something with more "body" (in the photos below, you can see the fuller-bodied one in a darker shed of red).

My favourite was the 2007 Carbanet Sauvignon, Lone Oak Vineyard. It's fuller-bodied, smoother, & somehow just has the "umph" that I would expect from a red wine :D

Inside the tasting room...

Different types of wine grapes

Little knick-knacks for sale
These were really cute but it was kinda expensive by the time I convert it back to RM, so I didn't buy :(

Prices of their wine

You can bring your own snacks/picnic basket
As they sell wine here, you can actually have a nice picnic with the wine bought from Cooper-Garrod. The ambiance & environment were lovely!

Outside the tasting room...the surroundings...

Horse-riding is available here too!

I ended up buying the 2007 Carbanet Sauvignon, Lone Oak Vineyard for my cousins!
They loved it! Yums!

If you've a chance to visit a vineyard while you're in the US, do drop by for a visit. I found it educational & "fun" although it was REALLY scorching hot! :D Oh ya, the best time to visit a vineyard (to view full-grown grapes) in California is around August - September...

@HenRy LeE: Yeah, I know right...the last time I came across one for RM60/event. This one's only USD5 i.e. RM15! Not many types, but I think more than what's provided in Msia!
