Review: Burger Junkyard

>> Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Overall comment: NICE! I love their juicy & flavorful beef patties & their succulent chicken thigh/whole leg that they use for their burgers instead of minced chicken meat. Prices (starts from from RM12.90 for a burger + fries) are also very decent for the great quality that you get cos the owners are all doing this more for their passion than for profit :)
Halal: The owners have yet to complete application for halal certification, but this place is definitely PORK-FREE!

Foodirector had their 3rd hangout session last Saturday at Burger Junkyard & I have to congratulate the team for organizing the fun-packed event with an array of good burgers & fries!

Burger Junkyard joined the race late last year with many other burger outlets that are mushrooming in the Klang Valley. It's probably the 1st burger-joint in Kota Damansara that offers such delicious burgers that you won't want to miss out. Their specialty that you won't be able to (or maybe you'll RARELY) find at other burger outlets is their steamed cheese (inspired by a burger joint in the USA)! It's oh-so-yummy! What you get is MORE cheese!

This outlet is opened by a bunch of friends, some of whom were classmates, all having the passion for food, cooking, & experimenting; all having the same vision & mission: to share their joy for food & bring people through an exciting culinary experience through their burgers & desserts!

Burger Junkyard's outlet is designed with what I call a graffiti-style design...like a junkyard la...I love it! So colorful, vibrant, & the ventilation is also pretty good. At least you won't walk out of the outlet smelling like a burger & feeling all sticky & sweaty. I can't help but compare this to MyBurgerLab in Sea Park, where they too have good burgers, but the crowd is madness, I've to wait 30-60 minutes for my order & I walk out of the shop smelling like a burger because of the crowd & the ventilation that isn't very good.

They offer an extensive variety of beef (Australian beef), chicken (brine cured chicken), & vegetarian burgers. Somehow, their logo & color scheme reminds me of Burger King! But they're CERTAINLY better with their burgers AND fries!

If you're a newbie to Burger Junkyard's burgers, you can actually begin with their "burger/set of the day", where you just pay RM13.90 nett/set for a burger, fries, a drink & desserts!

My favourite is the Texas Hold Me (beef burger of the day on Tuesdays) & the Fromage Et Fungi (beef/chicken burger of the day on Thursdays).

Your order number...comes with a mouse from the junkyard! :D SO CUTE!

We didn't get to try all their burgers (which will give us more reason to return to try the rest!), but what we tried were some of their favorites & best-sellers!

Fruity drink prepared for us
I think there's orange, peach, & pineapple? It felt "Hawaiian" :D

Fries with brown sauce
Here at Burger Junkyard, everything possible is made from scratch - their patties, sauces, fries...etc. Their fries are lightly seasoned with salt, black pepper, & I think some herbs (it's not as "herby" as myBurgerLab's). Their brown sauce is quite interesting. It's not as tasty & strong compared to their "tomato concasse dip" though....which is kinda like pasta sauce! They do their own mixture of herbs & spices with the fresh tomatoes...tangy, appetizing :)

Let the burger eating begin!

Classic: Fromage Et Fungi (RM14.90/half serving; RM18.90/regular serving)
Swiss Browns, Baby Portobellos, White Buttons, Cheddar, & Chicken/Beef
Juicy beef burger with melted steamed cheese & mushrooms! If you love mushrooms, you've love this delectable fungi burger :D

Ratatouille Beef Burger
This isn't on the menu, so I am assuming this is one of the mystery burgers for the day! I didn't get to taste this one, so I can't comment...but it's an interesting burger. My first time hearing of a ratatouille burger!

One of the chefs with the Brooklyn Burger - one of the best-sellers!

Classic: Brooklyn Burger (RM15.90/half serving; RM19.90/regular serving)
Chicken/beef patty, beef bacon, egg, turkey ham, pineapples, tomatoes, onions, cheddar, homemade aioli
This is one LOADED burger! Most Malaysians love this burger as it has every other thing in ONE burger, but many of the bloggers felt that this burger is quite common in taste...like a common beef/chicken burger. I didn't get to try this, so I will try it when I go there another time :D

Specialty: Balsamic Beefin' Onions (RM15.90/half serving; RM19.90/regular serving)
Caramelized onions chutney, cheddar, roasted tomatoes, green corals
For the adventurous & those who love beet roots! As I didn't have this, I was informed that this burger is slightly sourish, sweet, & savory - I guess it's a burst of flavors in one bite!

Specialty: Texas Hold Me (RM15.90/half serving; RM19.90/half serving)
Crispy onion rings, beef bacon, cheddar, BBQ aioli
My favourite!! The crispy onion rings with the charbroiled beef patty & BBQ aioli gives this burger a smokey & "Southern" feel...yeeehaaaaa....bring it on! :D

Specialty: Hoola Hoop Hawaii (RM14.90/half serving; RM18.90/regular serving)
Lettuce, tomatoes, smoked turkey ham, grilled pineapples, cheddar, & cocktail sauce
The mayo-like sauce was slightly spicy & made the burger alike a Subway sandwich. It's actually pretty good, in my opinion. Loads of flavors & textures exploding in a mouthful!

Specialty: Buffalo Soldier (RM14.90/half serving; RM18.90/regular serving)
Chicken thigh, crispy celery, tomatoes, flavoured sour cream, buffalo hot sauce
I'm looking forward to try this one! If you love buffalo wings, this is the burger-version of buffalo wings MINUS the bones! Woohoo!! It looks so juicy & I wish I tried this!

Seasonal: Blue Paranormia (RM14.90/half serving; RM18.90/regular serving)
Beef patty, creamy blue cheese, roasted tomatoes, toasted almond flakes
This was WOW! The smell of the blue cheese was SO pungent that it could put off anyone who doesn't fancy such smell! But when you sink you teeth into the blue-cheesy burger, & slowly mix the ingredients in your mouth, it's really an experience that's inexplicable, yet yummy!

Dessert is served!
Yes, they serve dessert here as well! What a complete meal!

Vanilla Panna Cotta with Lincoberry Compote
Lovely, wobbly panna cotta that's not overly-sweet, but tastes just nice to complete the burger meal :) The lincoberry compote is alike the sourish raspberry jam, but it tastes fresher, cutting through the sweet vanilla panna cotta. The chocolate sauce also complemented the entire dessert, to boost the dessert a class higher than the usual desserts ;) The entire presentation - classy & very hotel-like (skills that these guys picked up from their hospitality management studies are proven here in their dessert)!

Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice-Cream, Salty Caramel Sauce, Dark Chocolate Sauce, & Lincoberry Compote
Moist, rich, dark chocolate brownie that's REALLY good for a burger joint! I'm really surprised & although I'm not a fan of desserts/sweet stuff, I really love this dessert here! Well done, Burger Junkyard team!

The passionate team at Burger Junkyard
Thank you for a lovely dining experience! I'll be back for more!

Foodirector Hangout #3's Foodies
