New Year Celebration Lunch: Jeff Lee's Kitchen

>> Tuesday, January 1, 2013

Overall comment: Expect a satisfying meal at totally satisfactory price! The only thing is that you'll have to wait for a table unless you've at least 8 persons or more (you can reserve a table if you've 8 or more people).
Halal: No

Jeff Lee's Kitchen isn't a new place nor a foreign name for a good food place. Many have heard of this place & have frequent it too. My family comes over at least 4 times a year for dinner, but this time around, we're here for lunch with our extended family.

The restaurant used to be just 1 non-air conditioned shop lot, but since last year or the year before last, they've expanded to 2 shop lots WITH air-conditioner! Imagine how brisk their business is 'til they can own 2 shop lots that's fully air-conditioned. Fuh. The restaurant is located opposite the wet market at Kg Baru Sungai Buloh & can be quite easily located. It's at the row of shops opposite RHB Bank in that small village area.

Classic-looking 8-sided bowls for our claypot loh shu fun
It feels so traditional to eat with such classic-designed bowls.

Here's what we ordered & my review of each dish:

Claypot Loh Shu Fun (RM18.00/portion for 3 persons)
It's one of the best, if not the best, claypot "loh shu fun" that you can find around town. The "loh shu fun" is slightly chewy, yet not overly chewy like chewing gum. The best part is the fragrantly fried minced pork with "choy pou" & garlic + little bit of chilli that accompanies the originally bland "loh shu fun". Every mouthful of this "loh shu fun" puts a smile on a person's face & a nod of approval as well!

Deep-Fried Prawns with "Nestum" Cereals (RM45.00/serving size below)
The prawns were fresh & because the shell has been removed, it's actually quite easy to pop into your mouth  to eat. Before you know it, you've popped several into your mouth! Good choice :)

Kerabu-Style Ferns/Paku-Pakis (RM15.00/large serving)
This was probably the family's favourite. Crunchy, appetizing ferns! It's slightly sourish, sweet, spicy & savoury - from the dried shrimps. It's a must-try!

Steamed "Soong" Fish Head (RM30.00/serving size below)
We stumbled upon this dish by accident the 1st time we were here. We were supposed to have steamed "ma yao" fish, but we ended up with this steamed "soong" fish head, which we didn't realize. We just started digging in & enjoyed every single bite of it 'til we were told that it was the wrong dish served =.=" Lovely, eh? Since then, every other time we're here, we will try to order this dish. The fresh fish is steamed to perfection with a harmonious blend of ginger, garlic, & "choy pou". Very tasty! It's also quite 'cheap' for the portion served! This portion of fish fed 14 people!

House Specialty Beancurd with Minced Meat (RM20.00/serving size below)
Smooth beancurd that no one made any complaints. It's not the best dish nor was it a very special dish, but it was a dish that completed our meal & made us a bunch of satisfied & full people :)

Deep-Fried Pork Slices with "Nam Yue" (RM30.00/serving size below)
Today's serving of this dish was slightly disappointing. It's still fragrant & crispy, but not as crispy as we had it the 1st time. I guess it's because the pork slices were thicker this time around.

Roast Chicken (RM40.00/bird)
This is another MUST HAVE when you dine here. It's actually 'just roast chicken', but the taste of this roast chicken is just delightful. The chicken is served piping hot & you'll have to cut it up yourself. That's the fun part of eating this roast chicken! The skin is very crispy, while the meat is tender & juicy - even the breast meat! I salute the chef who prepares this each time. It's perfect every time we have it!

Bye-Bye Chicken...Happy New Year 2013!

This place is one of my favorite places for good Chinese food. It's kinda far from Petaling Jaya itself, but it's worth the travel for the good food that's pocket-friendly as well. In total, we paid only RM208.00 for 14 persons (inclusive of tea + ice cubes - rice)!
