Review: MIX IT at Old Town White Coffee

>> Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Old Town White Coffee Kopitiam has a new range of ice-blended, called the Mix It. For RM7.90, you'll get to enjoy a cup of refreshing & flavourful ice-blended coffee along with your meal at this cosy, yet casual & well-known kopitiam chain.

There are basically 2 main drink bases, where you can opt to mix it with 3 different ingredients:
Old Town White Coffee Cookie Base + Roasted Peanuts/Chocolate Chips/Cookies Crumbs
Old Town White Coffee Mint Base + Roasted Peanuts/Chocolate Chips/Cookies Crumbs

As I'm a fan of mint & cookies, I opted for the Old Town White Coffee Mint Base + Cookies Crumbs! It was quite yummy :) The coffee taste was nicely blended with the cookies, so the drink was quite delicious; it was refreshing as well since there's mint! The ice was blended quite fine, so it kinda melts slightly faster than the ones from Starbucks/specialized coffee-outlets.

While we were at the 1 Utama branch for the review of Old Town White Coffee Kopitiam's new Mix It drink, we also got to try out some of their Signature dishes, only available at their Signature branches! Their menu is slightly different compared to the usual Old Town Kopitiams as they have additional items on the menu, some are quite special/different. I guess some of the dishes may also be more expensive compared to the usual Old Town Kopitiams. As far as I know, there are at least 5 Signature branches around Klang Valley itself:
@1 Utama New Wing
@ Taipan, Subang
@ Sungai Wang Plaza
@ Pavillion Shopping Mall
@ Solaris Dutamas

Here are some of the items that we tried that evening:

Before the food goes into anyone's mouth...
It's such a typical scene at food review events...heehee... I'm still quite fascinated by such sight although I'm a food blogger myself - well, I don't own a DSLR! :D

Garlic Butter Toast (RM4.60/serving)
It looks good, but I personally feel that it's a tad costly for garlic butter toast. Nevertheless, I think it tasted good since no one made any complaints about it.

Fried Dumpling (RM5.90/serving)
For those who are keen on having snacks, this is a nice, crunchy snack.

Curry Puff (RM4.90/2 pieces)
Although quite costly, these curry puffs were said to be really good. I didn't try it though...I wasn't very hungry & just wanted to make sure I could finish my nasi lemak :P

Cocktail Sausages (RM5.90/basket)
Two of our blogger friends are sausage-addicts! Hahaha...they claim that Old Town Kopitiam serves quite nicely done sausages for munchies.

Main Meal: Supreme Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak (RM13.50/serving)
This version of nasi lemak comes with sambal sotong + ayam rendang + all the classic condiments. It's quite nice, I've to say. At least the nasi lemak does have the coconut milk taste!

Main Meal: Fried Kuey Teow in Egg Gravy/"Wat Tan Hor" (RM10.90/serving)
This was one of the best dishes that arrived at our table. It's very surprising! I wouldn't put much expectation on a simple & humble "wat tan hor" by Old Town Kopitiam as I always believe that those by Chiense "dai chow" would be SO much nicer. Old Town Kopitiam surprised us all indeed...

Supreme Javanese Mee (RM9.50/serving)
Nothing much to shout about. I still prefer the ones I get from coffeeshops outside :P Somehow this one lacks "umphh..."!

Signature Fried Rice (RM11.90/serving)
Doesn't look too bad & you can only get this at the Signature branches. I'm not sure how it tasted, but the blogger finished the whole serving ;)

Old Town Kopitiam may not be the best place for desserts, but they sure have something for everyone at all times!

Strawberry Snow Ice (RM6.90/serving)
Snow ice is something you'll find more commonly at Taiwanese dessert shops. No doubt those are far better than these, but we're quite forgiving as long as Old Town continues to serve good coffee & decent food.

Mango Snow Ice (RM6.90/serving)

Peanut Snow Ice (RM6.90/serving)
The texture of the ice is kinda interesting. It looks like shaved coconut, doesn't really melt in your mouth smoothly, but is still snow ice! Very strange...

 Our bill...*gulp*

Souvenir/Gift from Old Town White Coffee
Thank you! :)

If you're a fan of ice-blended coffee/mocha (I can't say that it's a 100% ice-blended coffee since there are chocolates), do try the Mix It to find out for yourself how this drink tastes. It's quite a refreshing drink, especially on a hot day :)

What's your favourite Mix It?
