Jalan Ipoh's Famous Chicken Rice
>> Thursday, October 4, 2012
Overall comment: Yummy! I enjoyed it, although JS said the steamed chicken is much nicer, which we didn't really get to try cos it was sold out! Everything was good, from the roast chicken to the char siew (barbecue pork) to the siew yoke (roast pork) to even the cucumbers! :D Did I mention that the rice was awesome too? ;)
Halal: No
When Monday blues passed, lunch for Tuesday was even better..."Tuesday blues" could not even exist with such a lovely meal for the day...haha. For yesterday's lunch, we drove to Jalan Ipoh for the well-known chicken rice. You'll see a row of stalls from the main road & the stall faces a large brick-orange/brown building.
Yummy chicken & pork rice
Roast chicken had fragrant skin covering the tender meat, steamed chicken was smooth, barbecue pork a.k.a. char siew was not too sweet & has a nice charred taste, while the roast pork a.k.a. siew yoke was tender with a crispy skin. *bliss*
The stall/hawker area
"We want everything...for 5 persons"
Unfortunately, they ran out of steamed chicken, which was actually our "goal" for this lunch. We just settled for everything else that was still available. It was only 12:30p.m. & the steamed chickens are sold out!
All that's left: Roast chicken, roast pork, barbecue pork
Even the rice was awesome!
Check out the rice...it's aromatic, flavourful, & "moist" but still chewy. Ahh...I don't really eat a full bowl of rice, but I finished every single grain of this stall's rice! The chilli was also delicious & compliments the chicken rice very well. It's spicy & "ginger-hot" :)
Open-Air Tables/Chairs
You'll have to sit right under the shade of the trees in the open. Every single thing can go into your food e.g. leaves, twigs, & maybe bird-droppings too, if it's your "lucky day" :D
Check out the juicy char siew & crispy siew yoke...
I can't really describe how good that whole plate of meat was, but you'll have to try for yourself to see if it suits your tastebuds.
Soup of the day
Each person will get a bowl of soup of the day. For that day, it was lotus root, peanuts, & chicken feet soup. Very yummy too....hahahaha....*happy* Oh, check out what went into my soup - leaf! Cantonese-speaking: "Ka liu".

I'm pleased with the food served here. I'm not sure if you'll be pleased too, but it's seriously worth a try. We paid around RM7.00/person for a satisfying meal here ;)
