Kim Boo Seafood Restaurant, KK

>> Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Venue: In front of Harbour City area
Overall comment: Food was alright. We were kinda disappointed as we were specifically there for the Stone Fish, but they do not sell it any more :( Seafood were fresh, reasonably priced, & quite tasty. The only dish that wasn't satisfactory was our fried meehoon (since we were bored of rice).
Halal: Pork-Free

We spent Day 2 of our KK trip at TAR Marine Park for island hopping & snorkelling amongst the fishes. It was much fun although quite tiring as well. After a full day out at the islands, we were all set to enjoy some good seafood! *woots*

AP was excited to try out the "Stone Fish", which was something unique recommended by his business partner HW, so we ended up at Kim Boo. To our utter disappointment, they don't serve Stone Fish anymore! :( Boohoo! I have never seen a Stone Fish & don't know how it looks like 'til I saw it in AEON Bandar Utama in PJ...sheesh...didn't get to see it in KK, but in PJ. Now I know where all the Stone Fish has gone to - exported to PJ!

Fresh Seafood :)
Variety isn't as extensive as many other seafood restaurants, but sufficient for us.

Hello, Lobster!
Sucks to be you...waiting to be executed only...

Steamed Prawns with Chinese wine & Ginger (RM30.00/kg)
This was quite good - fresh, sorta crisp...sorta crunchy...some were slightly over-cooked, but overall, still quite yummy. It could do with more wine! :D

Stir-Fried Sapak/Clams with Ginger & Spring Onions (RM25.00/kg)
This was just nice. Not over-cooked. I like.

Blanched Sea Snails (RM25.00/kg)
It's my 1st time having blanched sea snails...I didn't really like it. Hahaha. It felt weird. I prefer this fellas' cousin i.e. escargots!

AP managed to dig that fella out of its shell!

House-Speciality Beancurd (RM12.00/serving)
Good stuff. Simple, smooth, delicious :)

Stir-Fried Sabah Vegetable with Belacan (RM12.00/serving)
This was really aromatic, but probably too salty to be eaten by itself.

Fried Beehoon (RM15.00/serving for 3 pax)
Ah, this was quite bad...lacking of taste & the texture was just unappetizing. Looks like a plate of rubber bands with prawns & beansprouts, right? :P Well, it didn't have the texture of rubber bands la, but it was still not up to my standard of acceptable fried beehoon.

The Damage...not too much (around RM31.00/person)
Not too bad considering we had quite a number of dishes.

Map to Kim Boo Seafood Restaurant

If I'm in KK again for just a couple of days, I will not put Kim Boo as my top priority of places to have dinner. This place will be my back-up plan as I've also read many good reviews of this place! :P Perhaps I should try other dishes that they may be better with compared to the ones that we had on day 2...

Always ask for the price before ordering or they will overcharge you! When I ask the price before ordering, I get reasonable price... but when I forgot to ask, they purposely raise the price. Recently, I ended up paying RM90 for 1/2kg steamed LOCAL garoupa fish!!!

@Aedy: Thanks for the advice :) So far i haven't encountered over-charge in KK. Will keep that in mind :D
