Gayang Seafood Restaurant (Revisit)

>> Friday, August 3, 2012

Overall comment: Best seafood we've had throughout our 5 days 4 nights in KK this time around! It's cheap, fresh, & makes us wanna order more! This place has also moved since the last time I was "here"...this place is more spacious & certainly brighter than at its previous location (3 years back when I 1st visited KK).
Halal: Pork-free

You would have heard the saying "Save the best for last:". This was VERY true during our recent trip to Kota Kinabalu. We had seafood dinner EVERYDAY for all the 4 days & seriously, the seafood at Gayang on Day 4 was the best that we've had during our trip! This is an individual preference, no doubt, & we have not tried ALL the seafood restaurants in KK, but I could dare say that we've tried among some of the best & most recommended :D

Spacious dining area

Abundance of "sapak"

Tanks of seafood
This photo was taken after dinner, so it's less than half the tank of seafood after most were consumed! :D

Aquarium of sea-water fishes (for display only)
This is the ONLY tank of marine life that's "not for consumption"...hohoho...yums!

Creamy Butter/"Sap Lai Yau" Pearl Lobsters (RM100.00 for 5-6 baby lobsters - depending on weight)
Ah, it's such a rare occasion to have lobsters for dinner. This was REALLY awesome! Fresh, succulent lobsters in fragrant creamy butter sauce. It's slightly spicy to give the dish a "punch" & we were so satisfied with this dish that we wished we could have it more often!

White Clams/"Sapak" in Sweet & Spicy Sauce (RM20.00/kg)
Nothing to boast about, but the sauce was quite appetizing. Sweet, sour, spicy, & the fresh, chewy clams to accompany the rest of the seafood dishes :) We had 1kg of white clams.

Mud Crabs with Salted Eggs (RM30.00/kg)
This was the highlight of our meal (yeah, not the lobsters - this was the "emperor"). Gayang's Salted Egg Mud Crabs came with rolled oats as well! SO YUMMY! The oats added some texture to the dish & we were SO pleased with this dish that we ORDERED ANOTHER KILO of crabs cooked in the SAME style! The crabs were fresh, meaty, & ...words just do not suffice to describe how good they were...It's a MUST TRY!! :D

Stir-Fried Ferns/Paku-Pakis with Belacan (RM10.00/serving)
Yeah, we had so many seafood dishes, but just ONE vegetable dish. Even this dish had some sort of "seafood" in it i.e. dried shrimps :P Good stuff. Crunchy, sweet, savoury & spicy :)

Stir-Fried Fresh Water Eel in "Kung Poh" Style (RM25.00/kg)
We haven't had eel throughout our trip in KK, so we decided to try it out. Not too bad. Unagi is good! :D

Oh, you poor, lonely thing...
I know we ate up almost all your family members & friends...but they tasted SO GOOD....I hope you'll satisfy another table of hungry patrons too...enjoy whatever time that is left in your life!

If I'm in KK again, I'll surely have a meal at Gayang again! Up next, Day 5's makan-makan post... I'll be posting on a much-loved Italian restaurant in KK ;) Stay tuned!
