Venue: Restoran Yin Her, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh
Occasion: Dinner with family
Overall comment: Good food at affordable prices!
Halal: No
If you're thinking of a "cheap & good Chinese food" place to have a meal during this Chinese New Year (or even at any time of the year!), in my personal opinion, Yin Her a.k.a. Yuen Hoor is a good option. They have the usual dishes as well as Chinese New Year set meals catering to larger groups. It's a 10 minutes drive from the Subang Terminal 3 airport or if you're coming from Kota Damansara area, it's also around 10-15 minutes drive from The Curve.
The restaurant's hidden behind some factories & shoplots, but if you're coming from Subang Terminal 3 airport or Kota Damansara, you'll just need to turn left at the "Kg Baru Sungai Buloh" sign & turn left into a small rocky pathway when you see the "Restoran Yin Her" sign on your left.
The restaurant's very spacious; it has both air-conditioned & non air-conditioned areas. There's also a lake for fishing enthusiasts! I reckon they rare the fishes in that lake - fresh & every-ready to be served cooked at your table :P
The "night view" at this restaurant is quite pleasant :) Plus, it's not humid/warm...
Although the restaurant's quite hidden, it's usually packed! On the evening where I was there for dinner, it was almost fully booked!! Perhaps it's because of family gatherings & clients coming out for Chinese New Year celebration dinner?
The lake for fishing
Simple, but pleasant deco/lighting
Now for the much-awaited part - the food!
Food here is recommended...thumbs up!
Note: Prices shown were for portions serving 9 persons
Yee Sang with Salmon Slices - 1/2 portion (RM38.00), 1 portion (RM45.00)
We took the 1/2 portion as we wanted to order more dishes. The yee sang dish was just as a "yi tao" (significance) & "for fun" :) This restaurant's yee sang was pretty delicious! I believe their ingredients were fresh, hence the lovely taste. The proportion of ingredients & the mixture of different ingredients complimented each other very well :) It's not too sweet, nor was it too sour/oily...just yummy!
Note: Salmon's not shown here yet...it's in the next photo...
Toss ar!
The higher you toss, the better it is...that's according to the Chinese tradition...hahaha...of course, it's an art & skill to toss higher & ensure that you don't waste the ingredients (tossing it out of the plate)! Each time we toss, we will say out well wishes like "Good health!", "Advancement in career!" - all in Chinese, of course ;)
Golden Pumpkin Butter Chicken - 金瓜奶油鸡 (RM25.00)
I've always loved this dish. It's my 2nd time here, so I was more than delighted to order this dish again. I reckon it's one of their best-sellers. If you're not a fan of pumpkin, perhaps you should try this out...seriously! If I didn't mention that there's pumpkin in this dish, you wouldn't even notice! It's THAT skillful...to hide the pumpkin taste within the deep fried boneless chicken breast meat - which are soft & tender. The chicken pieces are very fragrant & slightly sweet because of the pumpkin. Yums! :) Kids will love this dish as well!
Claypot Beancurd (RM15.00)
The beancurd pieces were very smooth & the claypot was filled with loads of vegetables & mushrooms. The portion of gravy was also very generous. This dish goes well with rice :)
Twin Kai Lan Dish (RM15.00)
We were longing for the deep fried Kai Lan "streaks", but I reckon the restaurant usually serves it "yin-yong", where both stir-fried & deep fried Kai Lan are served together. This vegetable dish is rather unique & different from the usual vegetable dishes that you get from other Chinese restaurants.
Deep Fried Squid with Salted Egg (RM25.00)
One of the BEST deep fried squid with salted egg dish I have ever had in my eating life...hahaha...the squid rings are crispy (light) & nicely flavoured. The salted eggs weren't over-powering nor were it lacking ;) Thumbs up! The curry leaves give the dish extra "umphh"!
Steamed Red Talapia Nyonya Style (RM32.00)
This dish is one of the recommended as well. It's not very spicy, slightly sweet, & has some coconut milk taste. I enjoy the long beans, pineapples, & lady's fingers that come along with the steamed fish dish :)
