"Lava" Pork Burger - Andes Restaurant @ Aman Suria

>> Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Venue: Andes Restaurant, Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya
Overall comment: Lovely pork burger (as recommended by wacky becky) and quite a nice, cosy place for dinner :)
Halal: No

Thanks to The Nomad Gourmand, who convinced me with her enthusiasm 2 months on the delicious pork burger at Andes, Aaron & I decided to pop-by this place to try it out for ourselves. He would have wanted to head back to Betty's Midwest, but looking at the crowd (and we were quite hungry), we decided to go further down the block to Andes for the pork burger.

Surprisingly, at the time we were there, no crowd was at sight, compared with Betty's Midwest. It was good news for hungry people like us! (and he doesn't go with the "a quiet restaurant is possibly one without much good food" philosophy)

The restaurant from outside
The restaurant's rather cosy & has a warm feel (not temperature-wise). I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff there as well as the food! :)

Ice Lemon Tea (RM3.50/glass)
I felt that this was a rather tasteless ice lemon tea. Lacking in tea, lacking in the lemon taste...lacking in sugar too! :S It's quite a generous glass of ice lemon tea, but erm...much improvement could be done on this drink?

Balls of Fire (RM12.90/serving)
The name sounded "wow"& we just succumbed to temptation to order this dish. These balls are a mixture of minced beef + pork with chili padi & sauteed yellow onion rings. They tasted pretty good except that I felt it was a tad too oily...but Aaron loved it. I ain't a fan of chili padi, so I was busy picking the chili bits out of those balls! Hahaha...even without biting into the chili bits, the meat was already slightly spicy. So, if you're like me, you just have to be very careful to not bite into those "bombs"! :D

Barbecue Pork Ribs (RM37.90/serving)
The BBQ pork ribs here are quite different from the ones at Betty's midwest & Sanbanto. Somehow we personally prefer the Baby Back Pork Ribs at Betty's & the Pork Ribs at Sanbanto although this one tastes good as well. It's just slightly dry in our opinion, but the taste of the BBQ sauce was evidently fragrant :) The set is served with a choice of pasta/rice/mash potatoes/french fries + a salad. Not too bad a price to pay since the portion here is quite generous.

Pork Burger (RM12.90/set)
This is the highlight of this post - "lava" pork burger (I just gave it such a name). THICK & JUICY minced pork patty with the usual stuff on a burger...check out the next photo...

Ooooooze.........!
Check it out! I was caught by surprise! I thought it was a solid pork burger patty, but when I wanted to cut some for Aaron, melted Cheddar cheese (if I'm not mistaken) started oozing out of the patty!! *stares in awe* It was SO good! Perhaps Andes could consider throwing in some button mushrooms or some other kind of sauce that will ooze out of the burger patty! *drools*

Are you not tempted? ;)

Even as I write this post & reminisce of my dining experience at Andes, I just feel like going there instantly to get a bite of this burger! I must also commend that the customer service was good  :) Andy, the restaurant owner/manager (I'm not too sure) was very friendly & even asked us personally on how the food was & how they could improve. Interesting.

I'm sure to go back there again to try out their other food items on the menu. Anyone interested to join me? :D

Hmmm ... why no cheese flow out from the pork patty? Or when you bite only will spill out.

This is a good blog! You see, we have this food site Foodista.com (http://www.foodista.com) that is a food and cooking encyclopedia that everyone and anyone can edit. Maybe you are interested in sharing some of recipes to us or share your knowledge about food stuffs and techniques, Or maybe you just like to write reviews about food, wines, restaurant and recipes...why don't you visit us sometimes.

->christine: Hi Christine! Thanks for the comment ;) I've already signed up with Foodista :D As I'm from Malaysia & Foodista's community is mostly from the US/non-Asian countries, is it still possible to write reviews to be posted on Foodista?

Christine September 12, 2010 at 10:36 AM

Yes it is possible to write reviews to be posted on Foodista. Foodista even has a new feature that adds your blog to its pages. Like an automatic link-exchange, so you don't have to submit. Just write and post on your blog.
When you put a widget, Foodista will be crawling on your blog site and your blog page will automatically be added to the FOodista pages like this http://www.foodista.com/blog/3L8QX5VK/natoora-blog

You can add as many widgets as you want to as many blog posts that you have. =)
