Venue: Koo's Idea, Jalan Sri Kuantan 2
Occasion: Lunch with Aaron & his church members
Overall comment: Food is not too bad, but serving isn't very prompt.
Halal: No
Total bill amount = RM19.40 for 2 persons
I was back in Kuantan few weeks ago & was introduced to Aaron's church member's "hang-out lunch place" after church.
Koo's Idea is located at the new shop lots beside Seri Malaysia Hotel on Jalan Teluk Sisek. There are several restaurants & cafes there, as well as a good German beer place called Black Pearl. I've yet to visit that place (although I don't drink) just to find out what sorta good food it has to offer apart from their beer.
Koo's Idea offer an array of Malaysian/Asian food - from Chinese to Thai & Indonesian. Taste of food here is not too bad & the price is reasonable for the portion served. Parking's not an issue at all! *good news!*
Here are some of the dishes ordered:
Pastor ordered this & hmm...it looks & tastes alright, just that it's lacking in the authenticity of the actual Penang-style fried kuey teow. One of the best fried keuy teow is in PJ, Section 17. On the scale of 10, the Section 17, PJ one would be 8, while this will be like 2.5 - 3. Hahaha...edible, but "tak syiok" la :P
You'll rarely find me eating such fish. I practically have phobia eating such fish - has tiny bones all over. Kembung & its similar friends are a big no-no for me...but somehow uncle Mun Dee's wife enjoyed this dish with her rice.
Very appetizing & the texture of the mee hoon is slightly "springy" (not the dry kinda springy, but the moist kinda springy...nice!). The dish is slightly spicy, sourish, & savoury. Aaron ordered this & has no regrets. Just that Medan Selera's & the coffeeshop behind Nirvana@Air Putih supersede this one without doubts!
Indonesian Prawn Curry with Deep-Fried Mantao (RM4.90/serving)
I wasn't very hungry that day since I had a bowl of noodles for breakfast. After much consideration, I decided to order this! Hmm...not too bad...it's not that pricey as they gave 3-4 medium-size prawns & a substantial amount of curry. It'll be much better if the curry is thicker. The mantao is lovely & goes very well with the curry. I wish there's more mantao! (but yeap, it's supposed to be a light meal)... crispy on the outisde, soft & warm on the inside...oo-la-la...
Chocky - Ice-Blended Chocolate Drink (RM4.20/glass)
This was like ice-blended Milo kao...nice :) Although expensive!
Mixed Fruit Sago (RM5.30/bowl)
Seems like dessert is more expensive than the main course! Hahaha...but the dessert's quite refreshing :) I kinda enjoyed it. What a way to complete the meal...some cold, sweet (not too sweet! I like!), healthy bowl of dessert. *aahhh....*
On the overall, this place is not too bad to have a meal if you're bored with coffee shops & wanna move away from the smelly, dirty street stalls (which I much prefer!). It's certainly not the best place for food, but good enough to not make you push the food aside & walk out of the restaurant (ok, I'm exaggerating) ;)

rm19.40 for 2 is cheap!
the mixed fruit sago looks appetizing! XD
->Henry: Well, RM19.40 isn't VERY cheap la, but not too bad...yeah, the mixed fruit sago is quite nice, though not thick & milky. I felt it's just nice. Not too jelak :)
Henry, if you noticed, I didn't really go to many places...I'm only around PJ/KL & Kuantan :P From time to time, lunch & dinner with family & friends...so that's the load of food intake!! Contributing to my weight gain :S
Koo's idea is opened by my ex-uni mate :)
I always visit her whenever I go back to Kuantan!
->Leo: Serious?? Food there isn't too bad la ;) Enjoyed their curry prawns with mantao...hahaha...simple, yet delicious :) They need some publicity man...loads of marketing work to do if they wanna go bigger :D It's so hidden, even I didn't realize there's decent food there!
Seriously :)
I think that I already told her that her shop is quite hidden from the main road, and that she needs to do more marketing. Her response - well, I rely on words of mouth from my regular customers! I think that she will survive but whether making big $$$ or not, that's another issue.
Anyway, next time the boss (it's a girl) serve you.. ask whether she's Kate Koo :P she'll be surprised
ooh, you from kuantan. next time i must ask you where to eat, cos i make an annual pilgrimage there for qing ming.
->Leo: I'll surely do that..."Hi..are u Kate Koo?" Would be nice to have someone take a video or photo of her reaction/expression...hahaha...
->Cheng: Hello! I'm assuming that u're kinda new on my blog? :D Welcome to PerutBesi's site! Well, I'm actually not from Kuantan. I'm from PJ, but I've been studying in Kuantan for 3+ years during uni & after which frequent that place cos my bf's from there :) Just drop me an email (perutbesi[at]gmail[dot]com) if you need extensive info...I'm confident of providing info on good food in Kuantan! (can't say the same for PJ...hahaha) Stay tuned with PerutBesi!
