Good Vietnamese Meal in Singapore

>> Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Venue: Va Va Voom Cafe, Singapore
Occasion: Lunch with Sue Ann
Overall comment: Lovely little cafe with pretty yummy Vietnamese food & the portion is LARGE! Price is average in the city - S$8.90/bowl of noodles/rice.
Halal: No

I was looking back at my photo collection for the month of March 2010 & walla! I didn't blog anything on my trip to Singapore! Hahaha...I was in Singapore for 4 days & there was no blog post about it *pai se* I'll post some photos up in my next blog post, k? Promise!

I just HAD to blog 'bout this place. Sue Ann recommended this 'lil cafe at Seah Street to me, saying that you can't get such good Vietnamese food, with such generous portion, at such an affordable price in the city centre. I guess she's right! (and believe it or not, I've misplaced the receipt, so I can't tell you the exact price! *wergh*). All prices quoted below are based on my rough estimations + poor memory.

The name of this cafe sounded so 'cute'! :D

Here's what we had:

Honey with Lemongrass (around S$2.50/glass)
I thought it was very sweet, but the taste is actually quite unique :) It felt like there's sugar syrup added to the honey drink...

Fresh Spring Rolls (around S$5.80/2 rolls)
VERY fresh smell & taste - it has that crispy, green taste of 'grass'...hahaha...very refreshing indeed :) There were some bits of chicken & shrimps as well. I thought it's a tad expensive though :S If you don't fancy something 'grassy', perhaps you could try the fried spring rolls instead :)

Grill Pork Chop with Noodles - Dry (around S$8.00/bowl)
This was SOOOO worth eating. I was having a REALLY tough time finishing this dish! Can you believe it? The grilled pork chops were delectable! It's well marinated with lemongrass, herbs, & spices, & it was utterly flavourful. I'm serious here! It's good! Slightly spicy, slightly sweet, & fragrant, no doubt. A must try! And oh, do share if you're not a big eater - the ruthless eater herself had a tough time finishing it...I kid you not! I was over-stuffed with pork chop!

Vietnamese Chicken Noodles in Soup (around S$8.00/bowl)
I can't recall the exact name for this dish, but it's basically chicken + kuey teow. This was with added mint leaves cos Sue Ann LOVES the smell & taste of mint leaves. It's quite fragrant on the overall, although I felt that it's a 'lil "watered-down". Being a typical Chinese/Cantonese, I like my soup strong in taste instead of something clear & simple.

I would recommend this place if you're around the city centre. At least it'll be cheaper than eating at the malls & it's something more unique than the usual food court dishes! I won't mind heading there again for the grilled pork chop dry noodles - it's VERY filling & truly satisfying :)

->STL: Oh yes, everything also have to pay 2.5x more! But then again, once we're there, we just can't convert into RM for everything that we eat or purchase. Otherwise, bread also too expensive to consume le! Dollar for dollar lo...
