Colourful Pan Mee in SK5

>> Friday, April 23, 2010

Venue: Lin Chin Coffee Shop, SK5/2, Seri Kembangan
Occasion: Lunch with colleagues
Overall comment: Colourful meal for a change. The pan mee is not all that superb, but the fact that it's naturally colourful makes the meal more interesting. This place is a little difficult to locate though (and the GPS took me to some other place when I entered the address SK5/2!!) since it's located in a housing-area.
Halal: No

Fancy some colourful lunch? Seri Kembangan sure has quite a number of such stalls offering a colourful lunch experience. This time around, my colleagues & I decided to try out this stall, tucked deep within a housing area in SK5.

You can call them for directions!

What's different here is the colour of their pan mee. It comes in various colours (natural colouring, so it's good!):

White - the usual flat flour noodles/pan mee without added colouring
Purple - Sweet Potato
Green - Broccoli
Yellow - Pumpkin
Orange - Bell Pepper

Unfortunately, the bell pepper variety is not available that day. In addition to that, I forgot about the colour & ordered a dry pan mee, resulting the pan mee to turn out brown instead of its natural colouring's colour *sigh* Silly me...

Purple Pan Mee in Soup (RM3.80/bowl)
The soup isn't very fragrant nor flavourful. My friends said this "wasn't very pleasing to the palate". The pan mee was edible though.

Dry Curry Chicken with Pumpkin Pan Mee (RM5.50/serving)
Normal Dry Pan Mee (RM3.80/serving)
The normal dry pan mee comes with minced meat & strips of black fungus. It's best eaten with some curry gravy :) I ordered that, but forgot that once it's dry, it's brown & I can't see the orangey colour already :( I'm 'smart'... I guess the curry version is better than the soup version cos I didn't find it as bad as my friends did with their soup pan mee.

Green Pan Mee in Soup (RM3.80/bowl)
Ever wondered what's the difference in taste? Somehow there is a very slight difference in taste & texture of all the various varient of coloured pan mee. I can't fully describe it with words, but if you do get to try it, you'll find out for yourself :) Maybe you can try the "tom yam" or curry version instead of the soup since my friends said the soup wasn't pleasing.

Curry Mee (RM3.80/bowl)
QQ said that their curry is good. He whacked up the whole bowl clean! The soup is fragrant, not too much of coconut milk (nor lacking of it), flavourful, & it's not too oily as well.

This small little stall serves colourful desserts as well! On a HOT & HUMID day, oh, shaved ice in any form just cries out your name... ;) They serve a very generous portion too! If you're not a dessert-monster, order 1 & share with someone :D

Shaved Ice with Banana Milk (RM3.60/serving)
Sounds yucky, but tastes GOOD! Fragrant la...I like the aromatic smell of bananas (although I admit I DISLIKE mushy bananas)

Yes, REAL bananas + jelly in the bowl of dessert!
Talk about value-for-money...and the bananas were fresh :) Thumbs-up!

Shaved Ice with Red Dragon Fruit, Preserved Plum & "Bubbles" (RM4.80/serving)
Shaved Ice with Red Dragon Fruit, without Preserved Plum (RM4.50/serving)
Interesting dessert. It's REALLY PURPLE/RED!! The "bubbles" make the dessert look so "fun" to be eaten! Hahaha...the preserved plum ("shuen mui") makes the dessert taste a 'lil strange. It gives a salty, sweet, & sourish taste to the dessert....unique ;)

The ACTUAL dragon fruit pieces (GENEROUS!!) + Longan + Nata de Coco! *yums*

Fresh Mango Juice (RM2.60/glass)
Normal la...nothing too "outta-da-world"

Are you tempted to give this place a try? At least for the colourful noodles? I think it's worth trying, even once...if you like it here (and if it's not too far to come over), I think it's not too bad a place to have a simple lunch. The soup may not be good, but I think the curry gives it some "brownie points".

If only this place is not Seri Kembangan which is famous for its notorious traffic jam (let's not forget the distance from PJ)... I would go after reading this blog already :)

->C&C: Oh well, it's just natural-colouring, so I think it's ok...nothing much to shout about. I'll await something new from the simple pan mee from SK (the pan mee haven)! :D
