Cheap Roast Pork Belly & Lamb Shank?

>> Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Venue: Nambawan Restaurant & Cafe
Occasion: Lunch with friends
Overall comment: No doubts value-for-money! Taste is not too bad for the price you pay too!
Halal: No

Not too long ago, I visited Nambawan Cafe again together with some friends after our YQ camp committee meeting. The overall satisfaction is there, & I think they won't mind going back there for some decent + cheap food :)

So far, no disappointments. My colleague has been there for at least 3 times...twice in a week some more...the lady boss was pleasantly surprised & my colleague gave much positive encouragement & comments to the lady boss :) I'm very sure it made her day!

Ice Milk Tea (RM2.50/glass)

Warm Lemon Tea (RM2.50/glass)
Herbie was very happy to see the actual lemon slice in the glass. He mentioned that he has experienced some other food outlets requesting for additional charges for the actual lemon slice =.="

Fresh Orange Juice (RM3.90/glass)
As I've mentioned before in my previous blog post on Nambawan, the glass is large & 2 persons could share a glass of juice...there's not much water added to the juice as well...I can confidently say that it's 95% freshly squeezed orange juice!

Ice Lemon Tea (around RM2.50 or more/glass)

Breaded Pork Chop (RM13.90/serving)
Just like what we've tried during our 1st visit here, the standard didn't drop at all - it's still generous in serving & deliciously crispy.

Braised Lamb Shank (RM17.90/serving)
This is part of the Set Lunch for the Day (weekend special). The lamb shank isn't very large in portion, but as you slowly wipe out the mashed potatoes + salad alongside the lamb shank, you'll be full & happy :) The lamb is quite fragrant & soft. The sauce compliments the lamb shank, but it could afford more herbs wine to make it more flavourful. (correction highlighted by chef James Ong, who ate this dish...hahaha)

Roast Pork Belly (RM13.90/serving)
This is yet another one of their weekend lunch specials. It's something that I've been looking forward to try. I was a 'lil disappointed at the amount of crispy skin given! I want more....and I want it crispier, not as hard as this one :( The pork is tender & generous is serving, no doubt. It tastes too similar to the Chinese Siew Yoke/Roast Pork, but with a 'Western' touch. I liked the mashed potatoes too - mixture of sweet potatoes + usual potatoes. The sauce is a simple brown sauce with herbs & you can request for extra if you feel that your meat needs more gravy. The apple-sauce that comes with the meat dish is also a very delightful accompanyment to the meat dish. I felt that this set lunch was extremely filling! *satisfied*burp* Oh ya, my colleague said he tried this, but much prefer the stone-charbroil pork belly cos it's fatter & more juicy :D

Beef Burger (RM6.90/set)
The burger is slightly small (around 2.5 inches diameter? or like 5 laptop keyboard keys?), but the patte marination is no doubt the same as the pork burger's patte. Chef James confirmed that it's some 'satay' marination...hahaha...interesting. The taste is not too bad & is filling for those who are small eaters. It's cheap! - for real minced meat, that is...not some processed meat like at McDonald's.

Oxtail Soup Set (RM15.90/set)
All of us thought that it's some small bowl of soup that costs around RM7.00. This is a meal by itself!! It's like oxtail stew + a small basket of toasted buttered bread. Not too bad.

I'm still pleased with Nambawan. I need to find more of such places! Value for money, good to the tastebud & stomach :) *happy*

the oxtail soup looks nice

PerutBesi April 22, 2010 at 2:13 PM

->Vivien: Hellooooo!! :D The oxtail soup isn't excellent, but it's filling! It's somewhat very 'Chinese' although it's supposed to be some western-style oxtail soup...hahaha...it's certainly different from the Malay-style's sup ekor :D If you've the opportunity, go by that place to try their food la...even if it's not very nice in your opinion, it's at least not too expensive for your pocket :)

Wei ... so happened I just wrote about this also. Roast Pork looks inviting as well, and the pork chop at only RM13.90?! Fantastic.
