Weekend in Ipoh-Taiping

>> Friday, February 27, 2009

Dates: 21 & 22 February 2009, Saturday & Sunday
Venue: Ipoh & Taiping, Perak
Purpose: TRAC MYF Visitation to Ipoh Wesley's & CGMC's MYF plus Jeremiah School 2009's Commissioning Service at Taiping Wesley.

It was a great weekend! I can truly say that I was VERY tired after the weekend, but it was all worth it :) The committee got to know the growth & situation of the youth groups there much better, & we also witnessed the commissioning of the Jeremiah School 2009 students in Taiping Wesley. Awesome. Sadly, we didn't manage to take any photos with the youth groups, but I surely took a good amount of food photos for this blog!! :D *drools*

Come drool with me!! Hahahaha....

Our first meal was at Restoran Up & Up at Wisma Kinta (top most floor). FH's parents took us here to savor the BEST assam fish head in Ipoh! *drools* It was really yummilicious! :D All of the food that aunty ordered were indescribably delicious :) Thanks uncle & aunty for the lovely meal!! Very 'home-cooked' style....me likey....
Halal: No

The restaurant from the outside...
Very humble-looking, eh? Doesn't give a great impression of a restaurant that serves good food, but don't be deceived by the exterior ;)

For some, this drink is too sour, but it's good for me :)

The BEST Assam Fish Head in Ipoh!!
It's not very spicy, sourish, very tangy...the texture of the fish meat was just nice (not overcooked). A very appetizing dish :) A MUST order...
(the fish head looks so scary here!! :S)

Prawns were fresh...we found it peculiar how 'cincai' (not particular) the restaurant is in serving their dishes in different sorts of plates/bowls. It feels SO like home...

This is a classic home-cooked dish...lovely! ;)

What more can I comment on a plate of 'sawi'/'choy sum'? Er...tastes good? :P

The fried 'fu yong' egg has a lot of treasure in it :D Quite nice...

Very smooth beancurd....Chris can just have this beancurd with plain rice! *lol*

Apparently, this restaurant serves the best 'lin chi kang'...they don't call it 'lin chi kang' here though...it's some other name which I can never remember :P But if you mention 'lin chi kang', they'll know what you're talking about :) Nice. Refreshing. Lots of ingredients in there. Best suited for one who's sweet-tooth ;)

It's not very easy to locate Wisma Kinta somehow...the building is very, very old...you've to park your car at the back of the buildings (behind Jalan Yang Kalsom) & enter Wisma Kinta from the back door (it's nearer than to take a whole big round)

So what's next...? After the visitation to the Ipoh Wesley's MYF, which ended around 7pm (after a discussion with the committee) it was dinner lor...lol...woohoo!!

It was quite tough for FH to decide where to bring us for dinner...we ain't very particular with food, but we sure look forward to good ones! ;) In the end, he brought us to one of his favourite makan place :)

Halal: No

Restoran CFK is well-known for their fish ball items & the Hakka noodles :)

Click on photo to enlarge for a better view of the price range of food served here

These drinks cost RM1.20/glass

The beef noodles here aren't too bad. The soup's pretty yummy :) (RM4.50/bowl)

Hakka Noodles with Dry Curry! *drools* Nice! (RM1.70/plate)

Yummy assortment (RM0.50/piece)

This fried item looked interesting, so I took it :P It has meat, turnip, & I've no idea what else, wrapped in beancurd sheet & fried :P

The beef balls were quite delicious :)

I still prefer the ice kacang in Kuantan & Old Town, PJ :P

*burp* VERY full...dinner costs around RM6.00/person...not too bad lar, but for Ipoh's price standard, it's quite expensive :D Yet because the food & fellowship was good, we just didn't mind paying for the food :) I love my committee...Lawrence, we wish you were here with us!! :(

The next day was a morning trip to Taiping & back to Ipoh for lunch & CGMC's MYF meeting before we said goodbye to Ipoh...

*Finally the photos of Taiping & Ipoh Day 2!*

We didn't eat in Taiping; decided to come back to Ipoh for good food instead :P The food here was quite good :) I liked the "lobak" best....yums! Prices here are slightly high (somewhat like KL prices), but the taste is good la, so it's still worth paying.

Beef noodles (around RM3.50/bowl)
Quite nice, but this one still can't beat the beef noodles in JB's Cathay, Seremban market's, & KL's near Petaling Street.

The prawn noodles here ain't all that great.

Mee goreng (around RM3.50/plate)
Seriously, nothing to shout about although people said it's quite good. I beg to differ!

This one's an acquired taste. Some people love it, some people just can't take it. I kinda liked this one though Chris was disappointed that he ordered the wrong one...he wanted the pure beef balls instead! *lol* Poor boy...

The beef was quite tender...me likey :) Not sure how much this cost...

The best!!

Commonly known as "Hor Hee" in Canning Garden/Ipoh. Apparently it's VERY famous & really good wor...

We just had to try out Ipoh's caramel custard to know what's so good about it....we heard it's good...to die for kinda thing....but hmm....it's ok la....nice, smooth, not too sweet - just nice :)

New "Rainbow Pan Mee" Stall, SK

>> Monday, February 23, 2009

Date: 17 February 2009, Tuesday
Venue: Jalan SK 6/1, Seri Kembangan
Occasion: Dinner with friends

This is one of the best pan mee I've ever had! What's so good about it, you may wonder.

Apart from the 'just-right' texture of the noodles, the bowl of noodles come with a large assortment of ingredients such as fish ball, squid rolls, crabsticks, pork slices, seaweed, maize, & a whole heap of spinach!! The soup tastes very delicious & it doesn't have much added m.s.g. Perfect! :)

Oh yes, did I mention, this one is different from the other Rainbow Pan Mee that I've blogged before (the previous one was closed that day)...though it's just 2 shops away from the one we frequent. Price-wise, it is VERY worth eating!! You've to go early cos it's usually full house! Just a stall, but it's packed with patrons :)

Rainbow Pan Mee: Carrot noodles, normal noodles (they didn't have the green veggie noodles that night) (RM3.50/bowl)

"Ma Lat" Rainbow Pan Mee a.k.a. Spicy Noodles (RM4.00/bowl)
I love the spicy soup! Not too spicy 'til you can't feel your tongue anymore...hahaha...but tastes really great!

Normal Pan Mee [Large] (RM4.00/bowl) *regular bowl costs RM3.00/bowl only!
The texture of the noodles... *drools* smooth! Sure enough, this bowl of noodles comes with loads of spinach as well! Yums!!

Here's a rough map to the Pan Mee place...
If you're coming from Puchong/Cyberjaya, you'll have to pass Equine Park, Taman Universiti, & Pusat Perdagangan Seri Kembangan before you get to this road in town...it's adjacent with the Jalan Besar. If you're coming from Mines/South City Plaza, you've to pass the town area & look out for the turning after Public Bank on your right to the Pan Mee place.

Rainbow Pan Mee (dunno what's the stall's name)
Jalan SK 6/1 (I hope I got the road name correct)

WIP Closing Down Party

>> Friday, February 20, 2009

Date: 20 February 2009, Friday
Venue: WIP, Bangsar Shopping Centre
Occasion: Closing Down party

*excited again* Another party!! Woohoo!!! Nope, I'm no party-animal *shy* I'm just really blessed & privileged to be invited by TheQguides.com (yes, it's them again!) for this exclusive party at WIP, BSC :)

A BIG THANK YOU TO THEQGUIDES.COM for the invitation!!

So what's WIP?
Work in Progress! *lol* I thought it's a VERY strange name for a restaurant...WIP began operation with a 'construction site' concept in December 2007. "This transitory approach is meant to draw feedback, comments and criticisms (constructive, of course) which will then be incorporated into our road map towards the birthing of our new pride and joy" states WIP through the BSC's website.

They're currently closing for several months to make a come back with a more "wow" concept for their restaurant :) Perhaps when they're re-opened, I'd drop by to check out what they have to offer that's all new ;)

Closing Down Party??
Yeap! I find it really strange for a restaurant to have a 'closing down party'. Many of WIP's faithful patrons & friends were invited for the 1-hour free flow of alcohol (Tiger beer & Macallan whisky) & finger food :) Five of us food bloggers were very privileged to receive an invitation to attend this party. It's pretty much our first & last time at WIP! *lol* I enjoyed my time there, more than my first bloggers' party...heh... (perhaps it's because the Carlsberg party was my first time to such a party & I'm not used to it) :P

There was a dance by WIP's staffs, a live band, & an auction to sell off items that were owned by WIP :) Pretty interesting. We left the party around 9.30pm for our own agenda...it was a good time of fun & food! XD

Spicy sausages, nachos with cheese, & fried chicken wings (best that I've ever eaten!! *drools*)

I thought this was a very cute presentation of fried noodles :D

Yums...custard pudding....nice! Not toooo sweet...the way miss Wong likes it...

Too sweet for miss Wong, but the rest of the bloggers liked it very much! :D Lotsa raisins & dried fruits...

The only 2 drinks that were "free flow" were Tiger Beer & Macallan, which I initially had NO idea what Macallan is...I didn't even know how to spell it! :( I had to "pai-se-ly" ask one of the bloggers what Macallan is as I really don't want another glass of beer (I didn't like the taste of beer after having it the day before). Sometimes I wish there was free-flow of juice (we've to pay RM15.00 for a glass of juice if we order it!), but I chose the Macallan in the end, & had that ONE glass for the whole event...hahaahaha....quite nice :P Shocked Aaron that I actually had whisky when all along I don't drink! I didn't have much of a choice unless I pay :(

The food bloggers, Jek (from TheQguides.com), & Michele Kwok, the owner of WIP
