Sumptuous & Scrumptious Dinner

>> Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Date: 22 October 2009, Thursday
Venue: Jody's house
Occasion: Mini get-together

There are only 3 words to describe tonight: sumptuous, scrumptious, ecstatic! *siao-ness* One of the best days of the week...I need not say more - the immense joy is just indescribable with mere words...

My good friend from high school days came back from UK for a 2 weeks break. It was quite difficult to meet up with him since he has so many other people whom he wants to meet, especially his family members. Just the mere action of picking up the phone & giving me a call lit up my day :) It was great to hear his voice after almost a year of not meeting him & it was even greater joy to be invited to his house for dinner with his family! *joy*

I will rarely get out of Cyberjaya during the weekdays unless it's for something important or if there's an event to attend. I place this as an exception ;)

Dinner it was...just check out the photos...this was dinner for 9 persons, 7 adults & 2 teens:

Rice
Rice itself was already different. I felt so healthy in the beginning until I saw the spread of georgeous food that I'm to tuck into my limited tummy space...

Tom Yam Fish
Nothing beats home-cooked dishes. This one was pretty good, considering it's just a try-out that Jody's mum/godma was attempting.

Stir-Fried Cabbage with Oyster Mushrooms & Chicken Slices
Stir-fried veggie done just-right that the veggie isn't over-cooked nor under-cooked :)
Japanese-style Salad
A very simple, yet refreshing dish; with just sesame seed, sesame seed oil, & some soya sauce to taste, fresh greens & sourish-sweet cherry tomatoes were lifted to the next level of taste...

BBQ Pork & Roast Pork from Klang
When I first saw this, my jaw practically dropped "Glorious 'sio bak'!" I love char siew & siew yoke. These were slightly soft by the time we ate, yet nonetheless, it tasted good :) *happy happy*

Chicken Curry
Just look at the generous portions of potatoes...*drools* This dish is SO fattening, but it was lovely! The curry was creamy, yet not over-powering with the coconut milk, plus it was not too spicy. PerutBesi@Ruth loves it! I'm dreaming of my mum's chicken curry!!
Lemon Chicken
I've always loved lemon chicken & very often, I will order this dish when I'm eating out. Jody's godma can surely cook up a wonderful meal! Her lemon chicken tasted really delicious. The chicken itself was yummy, but the sauce made the chicken dish even more appetizing with it's tangy-taste ;)
Steamed Egg
The one dish that Jody cooked...hahaha...almost perfect, but it would be better with more water & less steaming time :) Simple dish, easy to cook, tastes good at any time! It would be even better with some century eggs & salted eggs...or even with some minced pork...oh my, I'm longing for some simple home-cooked food now!!

Home-made Cheese Cake with Peaches
Looks lovely, doesn't it? Jody's godma made this *wow* It looks very professional to me & it taste pretty good as well ;) If you're into "powered" cheese cakes, this is a must for you! It's very cheesy, has a slightly salty & sweet oatmeal biscuit crust, & lovely slices of peaches on top of the cake to give the cake a boost in taste :D

Friends since Form 1

This cutie is one of Jody's 2 dogs. Jack Russels are sooo cute... :P

I had such a lovely time that I didn't feel like heading back to Cyberjaya that night. How often do I get to meet up with good friends for such an authentic home-cooked dinner? His family knew a group of us since our high school days & it's just awesome to be invited to dinner with them. We had loads of fun walking down memory lane, updating each other on how our other high school friends are doing, getting excited over future/travel plans, & just spending time to catch-up with each other before we meet again. Awesome.

I look forward to our next meet-up, probably next year. How about you? When was the last time you had a great time with just a simple dinner & catch-up with your friends?

- Ruth
