Team Lunch @ Midori

>> Saturday, September 5, 2009

Date: 28 August 2009, Friday
Venue: Midori Japanese Restaurant, Putrajaya Marriott
Occasion: Team Lunch
Overall comment: Ambiance was actually very nice :) The food was not too bad (I'm comparing with the only other Japanese restaurant at a hotel that I've eaten in, Genji@Hilton, PJ) & the prices were actually not too high as compared to Genji. I reckon you pay for the quality that you want to receive ;) I'm not too sure if I will come here with my own initiative since it's not all that cheap & not all that nice...hahaha...I may probably just save up & pay for something better ;)
Halal: Yes

Every Technical Services team will gather for a time of food & fun. The team that I was in decided on a lunch gathering instead of a dinner gathering, since most people will be in office during the daytime & have family commitments after working hours. Around 23 of us headed to Putrajaya Marriott for a Japanese lunch at Midori Japanese Restaurant. It is believed to be one of the better ones around our office.

We were usher to a room when we arrived at the restaurant. The entire restaurant's ambiance is quite nicely done up - very 'woody' & despite the traditional Japanese feel, there was a modern touch to the restaurant.

Here are some of the food items ordered. Sadly, I didn't manage to note down the actual name of each dish, nor did I manage to capture the menu :( *sigh* When I'm eating with a group of colleagues, this will be the case cos some people just can't understand why I need to take photos of the food that we eat...

Fried food set

Midori Bento Set (RM40.00/set)

Mixed Tempura Set

Chicken Terriyaki Set

Unagi Set

Midori Box Set (RM45.00/set)

Pan-Seared Cod Fish Set

Lian giving a thumbs up to her Terriyaki Chicken set :)

Here's what I had in my Midori Box Set:

Fresh Sashimi
There was raw salmon, tuna, & white tuna. In my opinion, the fish slices weren't fresh enough. I actually had quite a hard time swallowing them & didn't really enjoy it. I couldn't finish it & had to offer it to a friend who helped me whack it up! *sigh* There was no 'fresh-sweet' taste of the fish :( I was quite disappointed...

Nigiri Sushi
Thank goodness the sushi wasn't as difficult to consume. Although the fish slices weren't very fresh, eating it together with the sushi rice made it much easier to go down the throat.

Kappamaki
Simple rolls that tasted quite nice. I was too full to finish it all though :P

Assorted Tempura
I find these being the best in the box! Fresh vegetables & prawn enveloped in deep-fried light & crispy batter :) Awesome!

Nimono - Simmered Dishes
Nothing much to shout about. It's a very clear & simple stew-like dish, that's actually quite bland in taste. The vegetables & mushroom were soft & easily eaten.

Chicken Terriyaki Set (Sweet Sauce)

Seafood Teppanyaki Set
JChun said the taste of the dishes were alright, but the seafood could be fresher...

Wasabi Ice Cream (RM8.00/scoop)
Lian said there was no 'wasabi' taste as she was expecting something pungent & green like the wasabi that we take with the sushi/sashimi...

Goma/Black Sesame Ice Cream (RM8.00/scoop)
Frankly speaking, I was quite disappointed with the Goma Ice Cream. The taste was actually quite fragrant, but the ice cream wasn't smooth - feels grainy. The 1st time I had Goma Ice Cream was at Genji @ Hilton, PJ, so I will tend to use that experience as my benchmark. I was hoping for something better from Marriott or at least of similar quality. (man, Genji should pay me for praising them so much! *lol*)

sounds like a rather disappointing outing, was it not?
wasabi ice-cream ... but if it's real pungent, would u be having it for dessert then?

->J2Kfm: Yo there! Yeah, it was a lil disappointing just bcos of the freshness of the fish...if not for that, I reckon it's not too bad to dine there on the overall ;) I didn't try the wasabi dessert; tried the Goma ice cream instead - that was very disappointing *sigh*
