Weekend in Ipoh-Taiping

>> Friday, February 27, 2009

Dates: 21 & 22 February 2009, Saturday & Sunday
Venue: Ipoh & Taiping, Perak
Purpose: TRAC MYF Visitation to Ipoh Wesley's & CGMC's MYF plus Jeremiah School 2009's Commissioning Service at Taiping Wesley.

It was a great weekend! I can truly say that I was VERY tired after the weekend, but it was all worth it :) The committee got to know the growth & situation of the youth groups there much better, & we also witnessed the commissioning of the Jeremiah School 2009 students in Taiping Wesley. Awesome. Sadly, we didn't manage to take any photos with the youth groups, but I surely took a good amount of food photos for this blog!! :D *drools*

Come drool with me!! Hahahaha....

Our first meal was at Restoran Up & Up at Wisma Kinta (top most floor). FH's parents took us here to savor the BEST assam fish head in Ipoh! *drools* It was really yummilicious! :D All of the food that aunty ordered were indescribably delicious :) Thanks uncle & aunty for the lovely meal!! Very 'home-cooked' style....me likey....
Halal: No

The restaurant from the outside...
Very humble-looking, eh? Doesn't give a great impression of a restaurant that serves good food, but don't be deceived by the exterior ;)

For some, this drink is too sour, but it's good for me :)

The BEST Assam Fish Head in Ipoh!!
It's not very spicy, sourish, very tangy...the texture of the fish meat was just nice (not overcooked). A very appetizing dish :) A MUST order...
(the fish head looks so scary here!! :S)

Prawns were fresh...we found it peculiar how 'cincai' (not particular) the restaurant is in serving their dishes in different sorts of plates/bowls. It feels SO like home...

This is a classic home-cooked dish...lovely! ;)

What more can I comment on a plate of 'sawi'/'choy sum'? Er...tastes good? :P

The fried 'fu yong' egg has a lot of treasure in it :D Quite nice...

Very smooth beancurd....Chris can just have this beancurd with plain rice! *lol*

Apparently, this restaurant serves the best 'lin chi kang'...they don't call it 'lin chi kang' here though...it's some other name which I can never remember :P But if you mention 'lin chi kang', they'll know what you're talking about :) Nice. Refreshing. Lots of ingredients in there. Best suited for one who's sweet-tooth ;)

It's not very easy to locate Wisma Kinta somehow...the building is very, very old...you've to park your car at the back of the buildings (behind Jalan Yang Kalsom) & enter Wisma Kinta from the back door (it's nearer than to take a whole big round)

So what's next...? After the visitation to the Ipoh Wesley's MYF, which ended around 7pm (after a discussion with the committee) it was dinner lor...lol...woohoo!!

It was quite tough for FH to decide where to bring us for dinner...we ain't very particular with food, but we sure look forward to good ones! ;) In the end, he brought us to one of his favourite makan place :)

Halal: No

Restoran CFK is well-known for their fish ball items & the Hakka noodles :)

Click on photo to enlarge for a better view of the price range of food served here

These drinks cost RM1.20/glass

The beef noodles here aren't too bad. The soup's pretty yummy :) (RM4.50/bowl)

Hakka Noodles with Dry Curry! *drools* Nice! (RM1.70/plate)

Yummy assortment (RM0.50/piece)

This fried item looked interesting, so I took it :P It has meat, turnip, & I've no idea what else, wrapped in beancurd sheet & fried :P

The beef balls were quite delicious :)

I still prefer the ice kacang in Kuantan & Old Town, PJ :P

*burp* VERY full...dinner costs around RM6.00/person...not too bad lar, but for Ipoh's price standard, it's quite expensive :D Yet because the food & fellowship was good, we just didn't mind paying for the food :) I love my committee...Lawrence, we wish you were here with us!! :(

The next day was a morning trip to Taiping & back to Ipoh for lunch & CGMC's MYF meeting before we said goodbye to Ipoh...

*Finally the photos of Taiping & Ipoh Day 2!*

We didn't eat in Taiping; decided to come back to Ipoh for good food instead :P The food here was quite good :) I liked the "lobak" best....yums! Prices here are slightly high (somewhat like KL prices), but the taste is good la, so it's still worth paying.

Beef noodles (around RM3.50/bowl)
Quite nice, but this one still can't beat the beef noodles in JB's Cathay, Seremban market's, & KL's near Petaling Street.

The prawn noodles here ain't all that great.

Mee goreng (around RM3.50/plate)
Seriously, nothing to shout about although people said it's quite good. I beg to differ!

This one's an acquired taste. Some people love it, some people just can't take it. I kinda liked this one though Chris was disappointed that he ordered the wrong one...he wanted the pure beef balls instead! *lol* Poor boy...

The beef was quite tender...me likey :) Not sure how much this cost...

The best!!

Commonly known as "Hor Hee" in Canning Garden/Ipoh. Apparently it's VERY famous & really good wor...

We just had to try out Ipoh's caramel custard to know what's so good about it....we heard it's good...to die for kinda thing....but hmm....it's ok la....nice, smooth, not too sweet - just nice :)
