1 Large Bak Chang, please...

>> Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Have you ever seen a glutinous rice dumpling ("bak chang" in hokkien) as big as your dinner plate?

I'm quite sure that you'll tell me such a large-sized dumpling is not the usual "bak chang/ham yoke zhong (Cantonese)" but the glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leave dish.

You'll be surprised to know that there is such a thing sold in Petaling Jaya & Kuala Lumpur! My aunt managed to get the large dumpling for a discounted price of RM17.00!! I heard her mentioning that the usual price is around RM27.00/dumpling!! *waaahh!!*

I can't recall where she managed to find such a large dumpling, but when I have found out, I will tell all of you, ok? :D

You'll be able to find all sorts of goodies in this dumpling...so far, I've eaten 1/4 of the dumpling, & CR ate the other 1/4, & we have tasted:

1. roasted pork ("siew yoke" in Cantonese)
2. salted egg yolk
3. lap cheong (Chinese pork sausage)
4. dried shrimp
5. oyster ("hou se" in Cantonese)
6. lotus seed ("lin zhi" in Cantonese)
7. beans
8. the usual fat & lean pork

The taste is actually quite nice & eating it is nostalgic! *lol* Yeah...I get all sorts of nostalgia whenever I eat anything that deals with my past....hahaha...it's been TOO long since I had a good dumpling :P

Mooncake Festival is coming up! I'll do my best to post up something good for all of our dear readers!

'Til the next post, stay tuned with The Ruthless Eaters!
